BR Standard 5MT 4-6-0, No. 73010 with a parcels train at Whetstone.

The later years of the London Extension saw many different types of locomotive operate over the route. During the days when the line was under British Railways Midland Region control, these locomotives were mostly ex-LMS types, although some, like No. 73010 seen here, were of British Railways origins. The Standard 5MT was R. A. Riddles' development of William Stanier's 'Black 5' 4-6-0's, and proved to be a popular design. This example is working a parcels train through Whetstone, circa 1963.
