Leicester Central shed under construction

An interesting view of the nearly completed Leicester Central engine shed, captured sometime around 1899. There are many items of materials and equipment lying around the picture, including one of the water columns, lying next to the tipping wagon on the left. The shed itself appears to be complete, but the area around it still needs attention. The coaling stage and turntable would be over to the right, beyond the edge of the photograph. Note the dark silhouette of a locomotive deep inside the shed. Leicester Central shed formed part of Contract No. 2 (East Leake to Leicester) built by Henry Lovatt of Wolverhampton. See on Route Map
