Construction at the Great Central Station, Leicester

Navvies at work at the site of the Great Central Station, Leicester, circa 1896. They appear to be constructing the chamber that was built to house the Blackfriars mosaic, a unique archaeological reminder of Leicester's Roman heritage. This section of the Railway (Contract No.2 Leake to Aylestone) was built by Henry Lovatt of Wolverhampton.
