Navvies at the site of Marylebone Station
Navvies at work on the site of Marylebone Station, London, circa 1897. The photograph is a fine illustration of the large number of men and horses that were needed for the Line's construction, despite the use of locomotives and steam powered cranes and excavators. J.T. Firbank of London Bridge was the contractor responsible for building the London section of the Railway (Contract No.7).
