Construction of Lodge Road tunnel, London
'Lodge Road tunnel mouth', St. John's Wood, London, circa 1897 (S. W. A. Newton's notes). The building on the right of the photograph is the old St. John's Wood station of the Metropolitan Railway. Typically, the contractor's rails are poorly laid and littered with debris. J. T. Firbank of London Bridge was the contractor responsible for building this section of the Line (Contract No. 7, London).
