Navvy Mission Room at Hucknall, Nottinghamshire

Navvy Mission Room at Hucknall, Nottinghamshire, circa 1897. This purpose built mission hut would have served the navvies working on Contract No. 1 (Annesley to Leake built by Logan & Hemingway). The man by the door is presumably the missionary himself. The missions were used by navvy communities as a whole, and children were encouraged to attend Sunday School regularly.
