Navvy Mission interior in Bulwell, Nottingham
Interior view of the Navvy Mission Hut built at Bulwell in Nottinghamshire - built for the navvies working on Contract No. 1 (Annesley to East Leake), built by Logan & Hemingway between 1894 and 1899. Pictures depicting the life of Jesus Christ adorn the walls above the alter, with captions such as ' The Gracious Call' and 'Messiah's Reign'. The mission's motto 'By Grace Ye Are Saved' is painted in a prominent position high on the alter wall. A man, possibly the chaplain or organist, sits resting a hand on the alter rail looking at the central pulpit. The pews are simple wooden benches and a cast iron stove sits in the centre of the floor.
