Three arch bridge near Whetstone, Leicester
S. W. A. Newton described this photograph as 'Three arch bridge. Whetstone culverts between station and Littlethorpe Road'. This is actually Bridge No. 399 and crossed Whetstone Brook through the centre arch, while the outer two arches crossed footpaths. In this photograph, a contractor's railway line can be seen in the foreground, and the wide embankment has still to be completed. This bridge formed part of Contract No. 3 (Aylestone to Rugby) built by Topham, Jones & Railton between 1894 and 1899.
