The photograph was taken near Wellington Road in St. Johns Wood, and shows a narrow excavated cutting with a contractor's railway laid within it. A Temporary wooden bridge straddles the cutting with a derrick standing on it. A small gang of navvies are at work with shovels in the cutting. Note the gas light in the left of the picture.
