Temporary wooden bridge, London

Temporary wooden bridge crossing the line at London, circa 1897. This fascinating photograph shows railway construction in full swing. In the foreground are the contractor's temporary rails laid for their engines and tipping wagons. With these poorly laid tracks, large amounts of debris and the makeshift wooden bridge, it is easy to appreciate the huge transformation made from construction to completed railway.
