Making the bridge over Regents Canal
Making the bridge over Regents Canal, London, circa 1897. According to S. W. A. Newton, the photograph was taken 'looking towards first tunnel out of London'. The contractor responsible for building this section of the Railway (Contract No. 7) was J. T. Firbank of London Bridge. His name is painted on the side of the wagons. From the photograph, it is clear that the contractor's temporary rails were poorly laid and maintained.
