Brick arch bridge construction

Semi-completed three-arch bridge over a wide shallow cutting, probably (according to S. W. A. Newton's notes) the 'New Birstall Estate Bridge' just north of Leicester. The main brick structure is almost complete, but the parapet walls have still to be finished. There is a scaffold tower to the right of the bridge, with barrels and tools on the floor nearby. The roughly laid contractor's railway runs beneath the centre arch. This bridge was part of Contract No. 2, built by Henry Lovatt of Wolverhampton between 1984 and 1899.
