Junction of GCR lines near Woodford

The junction of GCR lines at Woodford Halse, Northamptonshire, c1897. The line on the left was being built to connect the GCR with the E&WJR and formed a junction with the existing E&WJR line at what became Woodford West Junction (behind and left of Newton's camera). The row of contractor's wagons (on the right) are standing on the partially finished GCR main line to London. The junction was created as part of Contract No 5 (Woodford to Brackley) awarded to Walter Scott & Co. of Newcastle upon Tyne. The area in the distance was to become the site of the Woodford & Hinton Station (later called Woodford Halse)
