Cutting and Track Construction

A view along a shallow cutting near Woodford and Byfield, Northamptonshire. Built as part of Contract No. 5 (Woodford to Brackley), awarded to Walter Scott & Co. of Newcastle upon Tyne, the cutting has been constructed with a comprehensive matrix of soak-aways. A single track is complete with the second line under construction. Seen along the top of the cutting is a constructors track, presumably used to supply materials and equipment to the navvies working on the soak-aways. A water tower and crane derrick are seen alongside the constructors track. A three arch brick built overbridge can be seen in the distance.
