Brick arch underbridge near Helmdon, Northamptonshire.

A brick arch underbridge with curved wing walls located near Helmdon, Northamptonshire. This occupation bridge was built as part of Contract No. 5 (constructed by Walter Scott & Co. of Newcastle-upon-Tyne). At the time of the photograph, the bridge was fully completed and, according to S. W. A. Newton, it was 'the first bridge north of Helmdon to Sulgrave Road bridge. 75M 75C'. In the foreground is a single 6-bar farm gate and an undefined man can be seen perched leaning against the bridge parapet. See on Route Map
