Remains of the old Leicester Viaduct at Slater Street in the city.

In spite of having closed over 30 years ago, there is still quite a lot of the old Great Central Railway infrastructure to be seen. This section of the viaduct that once spanned Leicester was photographed at Slater Street in the city on 19th July 2002. Behind the camera, the viaduct would have continued to the old Leicester Central Station, but thus has now been demolished leaving the station isolated. The gap at the far end of the viaduct was the site of the River Soar girder bridge, but this too has been dismantled. Note the old signal post on the top of the viaduct. A sad remnant of a once proud railway See on Route Map
