Contractors' 0-6-0 saddletank locomotive, SUDBROOK.

Manning Wardle & Co. 'K' class 0-6-0 saddletank, SUDBROOK, built in 1891 (No. 891), pictured near Lutterworth in Leicestershire. SUDBROOK was working on Contract No. 3 (Aylestone to Rugby) being constructed by Topham, Jones & Railton between 1894 and 1899 (the contractors ownership plate displays a date '1895'). This photograph shows the engine driver standing on the footplate and a team of six navvies, complete with shovels and pickaxes, leaning against the engine. Another navvy can be seen at the rear, between the engine and the attached wagon. See on Route Map
