L2355. A line of roughly laid contractor's railway runs between two retaining walls in a shallow cutting close to the Great Central's London coal depot. Given the crudity of these tracks, and the intensive use they were subjected to, it is perhaps surprising that more accidents and derailments did not occur during the Line's construction. To the left of the picture, two laden mineral wagons sit on temporary rails that have been better laid and maintained. | |
