Bridge 357 - Rothley, Leicestershire

Bridge 357 - Rothley, Leicestershire

Go back to the records from the Rothley map.
L2103. A regrettable view of bridge 357, seen here in March 1978 almost nine years after the Line's closure. More a pedestrian tunnel than a conventional brick arch bridge, this structure was just 7' 5' high and 6' 5' wide. Considering the optimistic vision that Sir Edward Watkin had of the London Extension and its future, this picture of a forgotten bridge that is crumbling and overgrown serves as a fierce reminder of twentieth century reality.
