L2078. Photographed in June 1977, this mile post was situated just south of Belgrave & Birstall Station, Leicester. Made from cast iron, these posts were located at 1/4 mile intervals and took their measurement from Manchester, the city at which the then Manchester, Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway (later Great Central Railway) had its headquarters. This post was 100 3/4 miles from Manchester.
