Moving the Blackfriars Tessellated Roman Pavement, Leicester.

After the closure of the London Extension in 1969, British Railways continued to maintain the chamber that housed the Blackfriars Mosaic. However, rising costs and fears for the mosaic's safety led to it being removed to the Jewry Wall Museum in 1976. This photograph shows that work underway, with trainee conservator, Simon Aked, making preparation's for the pavement's move. See on Route Map
