Female Metropolitan Guards in World War One

As with so many occupations, Britain's railways witnessed the large scale employment of female workers during World War One. Taken around 1914, this excellent photograph shows eleven Metropolitan guards posing with two male staff beside a carriage. Note the lanterns and flags set down near the women's feet.
