Navvies having lunch beside Brackley viaduct

A gang of navvies, doubtless taking a well deserved lunch break beside Brackley viaduct. These men would most likely have worked for Walter Scott & Co. of Newcastle upon Tyne, the firm contracted to build this section of the Last Main Line (Contract No.5, Woodford to Brackley). Note the wooden centring still in place under the arch, and the temporary railway turning sharply to pass beneath the viaduct. See on Route Map
