Bridge 366 - Beaumont Leys Lane, Leicester

This large, skewed, brick-arch bridge was constructed to span what is now Beaumont Leys Lane and did so in a single span. This bridge was slightly unusual in the fact that girder bridges had been used to span similar gaps along the route, leaving brick-arches for occupation crossings or large viaducts. The height to the top of the arch was 21' 1' crossing a span of 40'. Taking account of the skew to the bridge, the total span was 41' 6'. It was photographed, looking east, in May 1977 and at the time still looked ready to carry trains. However, in 2003, the bridge no longer exists and only the lower half of the abutments survive.
