Cranes dismantling the girder bridge over Northgates, Leicester

Two cranes at work in Leicester between them set about removing a principal girder of the Great Central's Northgate Street bridge, photographed in July 1981. Shortly, the girder will come to rest on the viaduct's trackbed to the left of the picture, and another piece of the railway that changed the city's landscape will be consigned to the scrap yard.
