Bridge and embankment, Thurcaston Road, Leicester

'Embankment and arch over Thurcaston Road - Mowmacre Hill bridge', Leicester (S.W.A. Newton's notes). Steep embankments and deep cuttings were an essential part of the engineering design that created the London Extension's famously even gradient and fast running speed. This section of the Railway (Contract No.2, Leake to Aylestone) was built by Henry Lovatt of Wolverhampton. See on Route Map
