Navvy watchman at Upper Shackborough, Warwickshire

Navvy watchman standing outside a hut, near to Staverton Road, Upper Shackborough, Warwickshire, circa 1897. The mud and stone built up around this primitive structure would doubtless provide extra strength, but would also help to insulate it from the cold. This part of the line formed part of Contract No. 4, (Rugby to Woodford) built by T. Oliver & Son. See on Route Map
