0-6-0 saddletank locomotive, SIR BERKELEY, at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway in West Yorkshire.

Manning Wardle & Co. 'L' class 0-6-0 saddletank locomotive, SIR BERKELEY, pictured taking on water at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway in West Yorkshire during 1998. Built in 1890 at the Boyne Engine Works in Leeds and given the number 1210, this 19 ton engine is the only surviving contractors' locomotive that took part in the construction of the London Extension. Originally No. 30 in the Logan & Hemingway fleet, the locomotive was used extensively on the excavation of the Nottingham Victoria Station site between 1894 and 1899. In this image, the locomotive's green livery is an approximation of that used by the Cranford Ironstone Quarry - the former owners who gave SIR BERKELEY its name.
