L1516. A very busy scene at the construction site of Loughborough Central Station, sometime around 1897. The photograph has been taken from the bridge that carries the current Great Central Road, just to the left of the main station building. The down platform can be seen to the right of the picture, while the Midland Railway wagons stand on temporary sidings on the site of the later goods yard. In the immediate foreground can be seen the boiler and grind stones of a clay mill. The station and associated works were constructed by Henry Lovatt of Wolverhampton. | |
