L3508. During the construction of the M1 in the early 1960's, a new bridge had to be built to take the London Extension over the new motorway. Much of the material used in the construction was brought to the site by rail and stored in Whetstone Station's yard. This photograph shows one of these trains about to depart for the construction site, hauled by K1 class 2-6-0, No. 62015. This type of locomotive, designed by A. H. Peppercorn, was not a common site on the London Extension and were more often found at work in Scotland.
