Shunting wagons at Whetstone Station

Shunting wagons at Whetstone Station

Go back to the records from the Whetstone map.
L3506. During the construction of the M1 in the early 1960's, a new bridge had to be built to take the London Extension over the new motorway. Much of the material used in the construction was brought to the site by rail and stored in Whetstone Station's yard. In this photograph, wagons used to remove waste are shunted in the station yard. The station itself can be seen in the distance, just behind the wagon sitting on the crossover.
