Platform No. 2 at Loughborough Central Station

Platform No. 2 at Loughborough Central Station

Go back to the records from the Loughborough South map.
L3250. After the closure of the London Extension in 1969, a group of preservationists stepped in to try and save a section of the old main line. Operating as the Main Line Steam Trust, they managed to save the section between Belgrave & Birstall and Loughborough Central stations. From small beginnings, the new Great Central Railway has grown into one of the leading preserved railways in the UK. Here we look south along Platform No. 2 at Loughborough Central on 19th July 2002. Display luggage lines the platform and hanging baskets adorn the glass canopy. This could easily be the 1950's or 60's.
