Underside of the Braunstone Gate Bridge in Leicester

L3213. This view of the underside of Bridge 374 over Western Boulevard in Leicester, shows quite clearly how the girder decks of these bowstring bridges were riveted together. The decks are made up of 'H' section girders which were riveted together at ninety degree angles to one another. Iron or steel plating was then used to create the main deck. Note the skewed nature of the southern abutment.
