Former gradient post on Bridge 374 at Braunstone Gate, Leicester.

Former gradient post on Bridge 374 at Braunstone Gate, Leicester.

Go back to the records from the Leicester North map.
L3206. This concrete post forms the remains of a Great Central Railway gradient post, that once marked the change in gradient at Braunstone Gate Bridge in Leicester. The sloping arms that protruded either side of the post and marked the gradients have now gone. Sadly, much of the old Great Central formation in the Braunstone Gate and Western Boulevard area has seen the attention of vandals or street artists. This section of the line is part of the Great Central Way cycle and foot path that links Leicester and Aylestone via the old GCR trackbed.
