L3113. A temporary wooden bridge spans a muddy and roughly hewn clearing at the site of Lutterworth's Great Central Station. It could be said that this picture is a bland and unremarkable snapshot of railway construction. However, it is photographs such as this which help to make the Newton archive such a memorable collection: radically changing landscapes and engineering techniques were some of the important subjects of the age which most other photographers had consistently neglected.
