L2864. An interesting snapshot of navvies screening fine gravel or sand found at a cutting near Birstall, Leicester. Henry Lovatt & Co., the firm responsible for building Contract No.2 of the London Extension (Leake to Aylestone), was the fortunate contractor who made the discovery. An empty tipping wagon is standing by to remove the material.
