L2844. Seen here almost completed, this brick arch underbridge was built by Topham, Jones & Railton as part of Contract No.3 (Aylestone to Rugby) to span a small stream north of Shawell, Leicestershire. Lying upturned in the water are the discarded wooden bridge centrings that provided the shape of the arch.
