L2830. In addition to his relentless pursuit of railway construction, S. W. A. Newton very often entered the nearby rural communities where he recorded a wealth of fascinating subjects. Photographed the day before Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in June 1897, a Mr. Overman poses with his bicycle at Great Pond Farm, near Calvert, Buckinghamshire. As a snapshot of late Victorian dress and transportation, this certainly is a worthy study.
