L2786. Captured south of Lutterworth around 1896, this excellent photograph shows railway construction in earnest. On the left is a brick pier of the Swinford Road overbridge (bridge 427), and on the right are some of the large quantities of bricks that are still required for its completion. At the centre of the picture, a contractor's saddle tank locomotive is poised on the temporary railway to remove the small train of wagons which the navvies are filling with spoil.
