L2418. A fine view of a contractor's yard near Ashby Magna, photographed around 1897. An 0-6-0 contractor's engine sits on the temporary railway as her crew and five navvies pause from their work and pose for Newton's camera. These men would have worked for Topham, Jones & Railton, the firm responsible for building this section of the Last Main Line (Contract No.3, Aylestone to Rugby).
