Main line girder bridge at Swithland, Leicestershire

Main line girder bridge at Swithland, Leicestershire

Go back to the records from the Rothley map.
L2118. Looking west from the Mountsorrel Railway branch line at the two main line spans of the Great Central girder bridge at Swithland. There was a site left at Swithland for a proposed station, intended to give day-trippers access to the area around Swithland Reservoir. However, despite the completion of the familiar station bridge, and the staircase that would have led up to the platforms, the station itself was never built.
