L2106. Photographed looking north in March 1978, this the Great Central Railway's preserved line station at Rothley. The station is remarkably complete, with the platform buildings, goods shed and offices all still intact. On the right above the cutting is the Station Master's house. As with so many features on the Last Main Line, these houses were of a standard design, replicated along the route and built on quite a large scale. Prior to the extension of the preserved to Leicester North in 1991, Rothley served as the railway's terminus.
