River Soar Bridge - Leicester

River Soar Bridge - Leicester

Go back to the records from the Leicester North map.
L2064. The viaduct that carried the London Extension over the city of Leicester was made up of several different types and styles of bridges. This part of it was a twin-span lattice girder bridge that carried the London Extension over the River Soar, just to the north of Slater Street. Similar bridges were used near Aylestone and again in Leicester near Western Boulevard. This May 1977 image was taken from the southern abutment of the bridge, looking north along the surprisingly clear trackbed. Note the signal post in the distance which is still standing in 2003.
