Grand Union Canal bridge - Northgate Street, Leicester

Grand Union Canal bridge - Northgate Street, Leicester

Go back to the records from the Leicester North map.
L2060. Shortly after leaving Leicester Central Station, northbound trains would cross the Grand Union Canal on this 'fish-bellied' girder bridge. The unusual curvature to the supporting girders is quite evident in this photograph, as is the typical lattice parapet. The photograph was taken in May 1977 looking east from beneath the Northgate Street road bridge. Like many other Great Central bridges in Leicester, this bridge no longer exists.
