Signal Gantry - Northgate Street, Leicester

Signal Gantry - Northgate Street, Leicester

Go back to the records from the Leicester North map.
L2058. This sad relic was the original signal gantry that controlled the approach to Leicester Central Station for southbound trains. The lattice gantry still retains its four posts, but the eight semaphore signal arms that once graced them have long since been removed. The gantry was located on the Northgate Street girder bridge, but was lost when the bridge was demolished in 1981. This photograph was taken in May 1977.
