L1986. Bridge 405 was built to carry the Great Central over the Midland Counties Railway (later Midland Railway) that ran between Leicester and Rugby. The bridge was a wide girder span with a criss-crossed lattice parapet. This photograph was taken from the Midland Counties Railway trackbed, looking up at Bridge 405 in May 1977 and facing west. The Midland line closed in the early 1960's but it's trackbed is still quite clear. 405 looks to be in good condition with only some brickwork missing from the right-hand abutment. Today in 2003, Bridge 405 still stands in a similar condition.
