L1946. Beneath the arch of Bridge 425 - a brick arch bridge carrying the London Extension over the meandering River Swift near Lutterworth in Leicestershire. The bridge was almost tunnel-like in appearance and the river had to be channelled like a canal in order to clear the embankment above. This June 1977 view clearly illustrates how the river had to be channelled under the railway. The brickwork of the bridge appears to be in good condition and it appears to have been overlooked by vandals and paint sprayers.
