L1913. A west side view of Rugby Viaduct capturing eleven of the fourteen brick arches. Out of the photograph to the right are the two remaining spans from the 'Birdcage' bridge (Bridge 451) that crossed the West Coast Main Line at Rugby Station. The steel frames above the three centre arches are ties to prevent the viaduct from spreading, which would have ultimately reduced its load bearing strength. Note the recess projections along the length of the viaduct parapet.
