L1861. Head on view of the former Great Central Railway four-road locomotive shed in Leicester looking east. The shed was 300 ft long by 97 ft wide and once housed a complement of twenty-one locomotives. The shed's turntable and yards were to the right, while the GCR main line was behind the camera running north to south. The shed was coded 38C by British Railway's Eastern Region, but later became 15D then 15E under Midland Region control. Note the inspection/ash pits outside the shed's entrance.
