L1841. The patterns of stone lines on this cutting near East Leake mark the location of drains. Although the permanent way has been laid, another layer of ballast would be packed over the sleepers before this section of the line carried any traffic. Logan & Hemingway was the contractor responsible for building this stretch of the London Extension (Contract No.1, Annesley to Leake).
